Week In Review

This is for the week of February 14-20.

The highs of the week were:

Finding and booking a house for our family summer vacation! SUPER excited!
Getting a much needed haircut on Saturday.
Getting some delicious warm Rice Krispy treats delivered on Valentine's day from my sister and nieces.

The lows of the week were:

Laney had a more cranky week. I think/hope it is mainly teeth related.
Resorting to tons of bribery (for Charley, obviously) during a mother/daughters photo shoot on Saturday. It remains to be seen if we will get many good photos from the shoot so the crap I promised her may have been for nothing. Ha.

The best money I spent was on:

Definitely on the deposit for the beach house we rented for our summer vacation. It has a PRIVATE POOL, y'all. We fancy.

The book I am currently reading is:

Tonight I began and finished 'Curious George Counts to 10 and Back Again.'

The TV shows I watched were:

Survivor, and I think that's it.

The dinners we had were:

Sunday: Pork tenderloin, rice, green beans and peas. Learned tonight that Laney LOVES peas.
Monday: Our favorite crock pot meal, Chile Colorado Burritos and rice again. (Heather, are you the one that originally recommended these?) Laney had the meat from the burritos, rice, tomatoes and more peas and CLEANED THE TRAY. Picture below is from this night.
Tuesday: Sloppy Joes with sweet potato fries
Wednesday:  Chick Fil A! Laney had a pediatrician appointment at 4, we made a Target run afterwards at 5, so quick dinner sounded good to me. I got a 4 piece grilled nuggets to give Laney along with some fruit we had at home and she ate ALL FOUR NUGGETS.
Thursday: Publix Rotisserie Chicken, Broccoli, Mashed Potatoes
Friday: The girls and I went out to eat with my sister, nieces and my mom at Cracker Barrel, or, Crack Bucket as Charley called it once. I mean, who can go back to calling it Cracker Barrel after hearing it called Crack Bucket instead?
Saturday: I stopped to get gas with Charley on the way to fulfill my bribery promises and she smelt BBQ at a restaurant near the gas station and asked if we could have that for dinner. So, I obliged. She and I had that for dinner, and I'm not sure what John and Laney had.

My favorite picture from the week was:

Sadly there weren't many to choose from this week, but I do love this one. My sister took it during a tiny bit of snow we got on Monday.

Not Cool

It's not cool...... be a picky eater. I will never be a cool foodie. be an accountant. "Bean counter! Bahahahah!" be a thrifty shopper/yard sale shopper/consignment sale shopper. Unless of course you call it thrifting or if you are buying vintage. be pale and unable/unwilling to tan.

Baby or no baby - this white girl stays under the umbrella! watch Survivor anymore. Or maybe ever? I'm so uncool that I don't even know if it ever was cool in the first place. Much less to still be a big fan and still watching. (Started back tonight! Woo!) have a cat instead of a dog. be a non-athlete. enjoy puzzles - either of the jigsaw variety or even the Variety Puzzle book variety. NERD ALERT! have been in band in school. Band dropout or not, I was still a band geek.

scan0004 carry around a gigantic camera and flash attachment. Nor does my neck think that's very cool, either. wear glasses. Gah. This is a fairly new thing for me so I'm still getting used to this one too. FOUR EYES!

Untitled BLOG for goodness sakes.

You know what is cool(ish)?

To own it. I'm uncool to the nth degree!

Laney: 9 Months

Before I start typing each monthly update, I go back and read the prior month's update so I can see what has changed. This little phase we are in right now is just amazing with how quick everything changes. Every month when I reread the prior month's entry I am just shocked at how things were so different just one month prior! Crazy!

Laney is now 9 months old. We're moving right along at great speed.

As of just 3 days ago, we officially have teeth poking through her gums (which technically would be month 10 but whatever). I think we were absolutely sure Laney was teething for about 4 months. Ha. Either those were the slowest teeth ever to break through the gums or we were just wrong. Regardless, I've yet to see those teeth and it is a fight to try to feel them. That girl can hold her mouth closed so tight and if you get a finger in there her tongue will push it out or block your efforts. But, a few times I have confirmed the tops of those two bottom teeth while feeling her gums with my finger and making her MAD at the same time. She's a feisty one for sure!

Since last month, she's moved her bedtime up even more. She now cannot really last a minute past 8:00. We need to have pajamas on and a sleep sack at the ready around 7:50 and should go ahead and make the nighttime bottle because she will be D-O-N-E right around that time. If you save those tasks until after she's d-o-n-e she will let you know you've messed up. At 8:00 on the dot she needs to be finished with her bottle if not already done. She then gets laid down in her crib with a bunny lovey on either side of her. She immediately grabs one of them, stuffs a bunny ear or a corner into her mouth and rolls over to her side and falls asleep. She usually wakes up somewhere in the 7-8:00 range.

Despite appearances, she's still not officially mobile . Although she can scoot and maneuver herself all over a room, she doesn't do anything you would consider being mobile like crawling, army crawling or rolling. With just a combination of reaching and twisting, she somehow she moves herself from one side of the room to another. (I just had an idea! I need to capture that on time lapse because I'm still not really sure exactly how she does it!) Also, my sister and I have both noticed that she will be on her belly somewhere playing and then a few minutes later she will be sitting up again. Which, yes, is something babies learn how to do but neither one of us have ever actually seen it happen. Tonight I tried to pay close attention when I noticed she was on her belly while I was folding laundry. I dug through the basket for a sock - I swear it was just that fast - and I looked back down and she was sitting up! But I saw NONE of the maneuvering it took to sit back up. It's magic! Haha.

She's a sneaky one too. Although she won't even move her feet or bend her knees when you hold her hands to try to get her to walk, she is a pro at that walker. She loves going through drawers and anything at her level. Charley never really got into cabinets and all that so we still have an unopened package of cabinet door locks that we may be using this time. And she's also sneaky with putting things she finds in her mouth. We've had to pay really close attention to spot all small objects before she does after we dug two different possibly dangerous things (a screw from a battery compartment and a bead from Charley's necklace!) out of her mouth this month. This one isn't letting us get by with anything!

She is my chunkster for sure. There are just a couple 9 month outfits that still fit (mainly length is the problem - the outfit fits but pants are too short) so she is wearing 12 month for the most part. I may even see what the size 4 diapers look like on her after we finish our box of size 3's. I don't have an official 9 month weight yet as her appointment is next week, but I'm guessing 17 pounds or so.

She saw her first snow ice mixture of white stuff and went down her first hill on a sled. Just kidding. She came out for all of 5 minutes for that picture and that was it.

Fun fact! This swinging picture and that icy/snowy picture were taken exactly 1 week apart. Ahhh Charlotte.

But y'all. This baby has the best hair! I love love loved having my bald baby Charley but having a baby with some hair is fun too. It's getting fuller and fuller and is so baby soft and fuzzy. And blonde! I rub my cheek on that fuzzy head about a bajillion times a day.

So, food! Besides eating plastic chocolate chip cookies, she also is a fan of... everything else we've given her. She can chow down on some food these days. We usually do a spoon fed breakfast and lunch, but at dinner time she has bites of food that she feeds herself. She loves it all. We tried peanut butter last week and she didn't show any signs of an allergy so I think we are in the clear there. I can't say what her favorite is because she eats anything and everything with such tenacity. She likes to EAT!

She's also mastered the straw sippy cup too somehow. I remember it being something we had to keep practicing with Charley, but I think because Laney sucks those pouches down she knew just what to do when we gave her a straw cup. She enjoys feeding herself dinner and washing it all down with sips of water she gives herself. Such a big girl!

She only nurses in the mornings now and has formula for all other bottles of the day.

Laney has started saying Mama(mamamaa) also this month! She has said it with intention several times so I'm counting it. I cannot believe she said Mama before Dada! (Take that, John!) She is definitely a Mama's girl so far too. If she sees me, she wants me as close as possible to her. I'm not complaining though.

She also signs "more" and "all done" on occasion. It's not consistent yet but she has correctly used both signs a couple of times. Sometimes with "more" she also starts saying the "mamamamamaa" thing which I think she is trying to say "more more more more more" instead of Mama but it's too soon to tell.

This was the last month we were able to do the blanket picture with Charley so we will see if Laney will still cooperate next month. These two sisters totally love each other so far and I am constantly amazed at how sweet and helpful Charley is to her.

Happy 9 months Laney Bug!

Day In The Life

It has been almost 9 months since the last Day In The Life, and now we are both back at work and settled into our routine once again. Unfortunately it is very, very busy for us this time of year so I didn't get this done in time to be included in the quarterly Day In The Life round up but oh well. This is more for my own amusement anyway. I really love going back to read these.

This day was Friday, January 29, 2016.

John is 34 years old.
I am 33 years old.
Charley is 4.
Laney is 9 months, exactly!

My first alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m. We're snoozers, so we snooze then, and then also at 6:09 and 6:18. At 6:27 we finally get up. John makes his way to the shower and I go get Laney up.

We have a new routine lately where I wake up Charley first and set her up with a TV show while I nurse Laney, but this day I forgot to do that first. So I nurse Laney for 15-20 minutes and then get her dressed.  While I'm nursing Laney John finishes his shower and gets Charley up and settled with a cartoon.

I make my way into the kitchen where John is making my breakfast smoothie and wondering why in the world am I taking pictures so early. I don't tell him I'm doing A Day in the Life, yet. So we get grump face.

It is now 6:53 and I put Laney in the highchair to await her second breakfast and Charley has finished up her breakfast so it is time to get her dressed now too.

I get her dressed in the outfit we picked out last night (we MUST pick an outfit at night or else we will be fighting in the morning. And sometimes even then we still do. Getting her up a bit earlier and letting her wake up with a show has helped though. Whew!) and then we head to the bathroom for hair brushing and teeth brushing.

Finally I get a little bit of time to start getting myself ready. As I walk back through the kitchen John is feeding Laney some yogurt. It is now 7:05 a.m.

It is time for John and the babies to leave. These were taken at 7:14 and 7:16, and I finally told John why I was being crazy with the pictures this morning so I get smiles.

I really should get up earlier (one or two less snoozes would do it) because days like today when my hair is not cooperating at ALL (nightly shower and then I go to sleep on wet hair) I end up really pushing it to get to work on time. It is already 7:25 and work starts at 8 but I cannot go to work with my hair like it was, so I start curling it.

Also on the outfit choice - we have casual Fridays at work so usually I just go with regular jeans, but today I have an interview to conduct and I know she will be dressed up so while I'm not going to match her and wear a suit or anything, I figure colored jeans & boots is better than just regular jeans. Right? Ha. At least that's how I justify it to myself. I don't wanna give up my casual Friday!

Ok. 7:40 a.m. and I've got to G-O GO. Quit taking pictures you buffoon - you are going to be late!

Pull out of the garage, to the end of our driveway and have to lock the gate.

7:45 when I pull out of my driveway. On the way to work I down my smoothie. (OJ, banana, kale, flax seed, berries, yogurt - I think. John's the smoothie maker around here.)

And at my desk. 8:00 ON THE DOT. Whew. (I used to NEVER be on time at my old job. Granted, it was much further away and I had tons more traffic to deal with, but I never could get it together to get there on time. Here, I consider 8:00 to be on the late side and much prefer at least 10 minutes early.)

Work, work, work, work, work all morning. I am so busy this time of year so I rarely come up for air. My Fitbit tells me I'm only getting 3-4,000 steps A DAY lately. I spend a lot of time in that red chair.

Until finally, time for lunch around 12:45. Only, this lunch is slightly different since I'm doing an interview over lunch at Panera. Oh, did I mention this was my first interview EVER?

While I do feel like my day is slightly incomplete without pictures of my lunch and lunch companion, I'm thinking that would have been slightly weird to do so I refrain. It went better than expected though and I head back to work.

The reason I'm so picture heavy in the mornings and evenings is because my work day looks all the same. And how many selfies can one take in a cubicle?

Okay just one more. This was at 3:22.

Oh! Here's something fun! I went to get water at 3:24. And yes, I would have been so embarrassed had someone seen me taking a picture while doing this. Weirrrrrrrrrrrdo.

Ok back to spreadsheets for the remainder of the day.

Until finally, it is time to go get my babies. They are now at my parent's house this afternoon because my sister had a funeral to go to so she brought them over to my parent's house around lunch. I pull up and hear Charley and my mom playing outside and make my way over to them. When Charley sees me she comes running up to give me a hug. Best part of my day right here. This was at 5:36.

I then go inside to find my Laney Bug. She's napping on my parent's bed so my dad and I go get her.

We make our way home and I give Laney a bottle while Charley watches a show before dinner. This is at 6:12.

John and Charley have dinner. (I skip dinner in lieu of something coming up later this evening.) It's just leftovers tonight so I can't remember what John has but Charley has pork, corn and potatoes with watermelon for dessert - in an Ariel dress and with a Renaissance Festival flower crown, of course. I think Laney has a little bit of the pork, corn and potatoes too, but I can't really remember. She may have just had a pouch this night. She gets down and plays at some point too. This is why you don't wait an entire week to type all this up.

It is Laney's 9 month birthday so I drag out the tripod and monthly sticker to take her monthly pictures real quick. John comes in to help because Laney is a sticker destroyer. We still have Charley's stickers though so we end up using that one instead. Despite the looks of things (these are straight out of the camera), we did eventually get two decent shots, which I'll share in the 9 month update post soon. These were done from 7:06 - 7:15.

7:25 - I put Laney in her pajamas and she runs around a bit being mischievous in her walker.

7:52 - Charley wants to read Laney a book before Laney goes to bed. Afterwards I give Laney a bottle and she's out for the night.

John decides now (7:53) is a good time to start working on a leaky sink. My friend Diana shows up sometime around here too, but I didn't want to throw a camera in her face the second she walked in so I don't have a time stamp for accuracy here.

Charley decides she wants more (and more and more and more) watermelon so I give her some more. By 8:34 we've got her in pajamas and have brushed her teeth and we are reading her books in bed. I read one first, and then John reads one.

Charley does get up and come out of her room once, but I think it was to use the bathroom and then she goes back in her bed. Her and Laney are then both out until 7 something the next morning.

Meanwhile, my friend Diana and I head out at 9 something. We go to a restaurant to have an appetizer and some drinks and chat.

A little before 11 the bartender comes by and asks if we want another drink. We both decline at first, and then change our minds a couple minutes later. He brings us our drinks and we continue to chat chat chat. At 11:30 we realize we are the ONLY people left in the whole restaurant except for the bartender. Whoops! We ask what time they closed and he said 11! We still each had half a beer left to finish so we quickly drink those up and make our way to the car to head back home. We hadn't planned on shutting a bar down this night, but what can we say - we are party animals! This was taken at 11:31.

Diana lives about 2 hours away so she's staying the night at our house tonight. One day we'll have our basement finished so she can have a guest bed, but for now we just have the couch. We end up sitting on that couch until 1:30 in the morning just talking. Well, okay, and maybe drinking too. (Though I think I only had water once we got back home. Diana you lush! :P) This was taken at 1:05 a.m.

So yeah. Finally at 1:30 a.m. I decide it would be a good idea for me to actually go to bed now. John was getting up the next morning to go do some handyman work at a coworker's house so I would only be able to sleep as late as the girls slept. So 6 hours later I get up and am back on the clock. But, it was worth it! I don't get much friend time so I soak it up when I do.

The end! Very busy, very long, and very fun!
