Nomenclature

name

I'm not sure that anyone who reads this could possibly not know this, but my name is Lacey. I obviously love my name and am very thankful to my parents for giving me a special, unique name instead of making me 1 of 4 Jennifers in my first grade class. I doubt Jennifer E. felt quite the same love and adoration for her name as I did for mine. Which is why the bar is set so high for this baby's name.

I want something unique. Not something unique like Uniqua (honestly, I used to work with her) or something so common that is number one on the top baby names list for 2011. So, during my last pregnancy my Mama and I sat down at the kitchen table and she started throwing out family names to see if anything sparked any interest. We went down the list (boys and girls at that point because we didn't know what I was having):

Alma (too old fashioned)
Mildred (ditto)
Ray (no, and only maybe as Rae for a middle name, but not as a boy's name)
Madison (sister used as a middle name for my niece, and have a 2nd cousin named Madison)
and this went on and on...
Charles (no)

....

"But wait, what about Charley for a girl?", And we both sat there and thought about it and realized we both liked it and it could possibly work. My dad is Charles, and he was a junior therefore my grandfather was Charles as well. But (no offense guys) since I'm not too fond of the name for a boy, I really could see it working for a girl. And I've always been a fan of boy names for girls anyways, so add one more point to the "pro" side.

So that was sometime during April of 2010. And the name hadn't left my front runners list I kept in my head all this time. I asked John about it as soon as I got home and he was on board too. So far so good.

Next step: have a baby girl.

So when we found out last week that we were in fact having a girl, Charley was already on our minds as the possible name. This weekend we sat down and tried to come up with anything we may like better, and kept coming back to Charley. So therefore, Charley it is!

As for the middle name, we aren't sure yet. We have a couple of favorites so far, but nothing set in stone.

Coincidentally, as much as I don't want a popular name (and I doubt Charley will be that popular), the name Charlotte is among the top 10 for girls' names this year, and in my Charley research I found that many people are naming their babies Charlotte and using Charley for a nickname. I prefer to just call the baby its name instead of going that route, but there may be a possibility of some children sharing her name. (The nerve of them!)

But regardless she officially has a (first) name:

We love you Charley!

Haiku Thursday

haiku2

It's been a while since I've been haikuing. The original haikuer hasn't haikued in a while, but her haikuing legacy shall live on here.

[As always, if you'd like to participate, let me know in my comments!  And, if you need a little extra help in the poetry department: a haiku is a short poem consisting of three lines; the first line having 5 syllables, the second 7, and the third 5.]

Once upon a time,
I dreamed of a little girl
Of my own. Got her.

I can't believe that I actually am getting the girl that I want. That never happens! If you want something too bad, the universe will give you the opposite. At least that's what I was telling myself in preparation for our ultrasound appointment yesterday. But, apparently the universe likes me! It really likes me!

It took our ultrasound technician about 3.5 seconds to tell us she was a she, and I think I said "Ohh yayy." in a really unenthusiastic way when she gave us the news. But little did she know I was jumping up and down inside! We are so excited!

I typically am not a fan of ultrasound pictures, but I'll share one anyways. Just be glad I didn't scan the whole string of 9 pictures we walked out of the doctor's office with. Here she is!

scan0002

We love her already!

Spreading the Love

From my 101 list, #64: Have at least 50 blog followers is complete! Wahoo!

Since I feel so loved by all 50 of you, I am going to spread some love too. If you ever get bored and feel like exploring the blogosphere, these are some of my favorite blogs and/or some of my favorite blog posts I've ever read. If you need more reading material than these (it is a rainy Saturday after all) I have more listed to the right ---> under 'People I Know' and 'People I Stalk'. These all keep me very entertained, and since 50 of you are entertained enough to follow me, I just KNOW you'll like these too!

The Diniwilks:

First and foremost, my 50th follower is this lady in Ohio who has become a blogging buddy of mine. Other things we have in common: we both play Words With Friends on our iPhones (and we play against each other...gasp!), we are both pregnant, we are both Honda drivers, and we both have hilarious blogs, duh! Another fun fact about Laura: she created a 101 list of her own after being inspired by mine! So, not only did she help me complete #64 on my list, but she also helped me to complete #98: Inspire someone else to make a 101 in 1001 list for themselves. So yeah, she definitely earned her top spot on this list!

Young House Love:

I know I was late catching on to this bandwagon, but I have jumped on and I'm never getting off. I am borderline obsessed with this couple, their baby, their dog Burger, and their blog. They mainly blog about their DIY projects they complete as they are decorating their home, but both of them blog as their full-time job (both John and Sherry...yes, I'm on a first name basis with them now) and are witty, funny, and adorable. The things that sucked me in the first time I stumbled upon them are this: their wedding, the tour of their first house, and this video of Burger (at the bottom of the post). That's all it took and I was hooked!

The Jolly Porter

This is a MAN blogger...gasp! He is the brother of two very popular bloggers (CJane and NieNie) but sorry to his sisters, but bro is my fave! His sense of humor must just mesh well with mine because I am constantly laughing out loud (a for real LOL) at him. Check out his lip-syncing here, or one of his Halloween interviews, or maybe this heartbreaking story about losing a treasured personal item. But really, they are all funny and you can't go wrong.

Perfection. That's what I think about when I think of Darby's life. Perfect southern husband, 3 perfect and adorable blonde children, perfect photos, perfect twin sister, perfect blog, perfect, perfect, perfect. But, she by no means makes her life out to seem this way, and she shares the good with the bad. But she just shares it in such a perfect way that you can't help but to be a little envious! I don't think I have a favorite post of hers. They are all good, and you can definitely spend several hours getting sucked in here too. I do love the ones about Darby doll though!

The Beane Blog

To bring it back home, this blog belongs to a childhood friend of mine, Kelly. She and I grew up only a few miles apart and went to elementary, middle, high school and even college together. She and I both started a blog at pretty much the same time, and she mainly blogs about her adorable family and their life. And, although I'm ashamed to admit it again, she has kept up with her 365 photo challenge when I quit mine in February.

And finally, this one particular blog post about the antics around the women's restroom in the workplace is spot on and hilarious. If there are any men that may go read this and think this lady is over-exaggerating, I assure you she is not. It's the sad, sad truth.

If it is raining where you are today, you can definitely kill some time reading these other lovely blogs! Let me know if you have any favorites too! I am already reading 71 blogs as it is, so what is one or two more? Happy reading!

Place Your Bets!

boy-or-girl[1]

In 9 (long) days we will be finding out whether this baby is a girl or boy - given the cooperation of this baby on ultrasound day. While I am dying to find out, I also wanted to document what people thought before we have a definite answer. In order to do this, I set up a poll on expectnet.com where we can place our bets (just for fun, I'm not looking to take your money) on the baby's sex, birth date, length, weight, and time of birth.

To participate (and please do!) go here! In the top right corner there is a button to enter a guess, and then you will be able to fill out all of your guesses from there. Put a short little note on how you know me (whether you are my long-lost third cousin or just a blog reader) so I can figure out who thinks what.

And, to make this fair, I'll give you all of the "information" I have so far. Some people put a lot of stock into the old wives' tales, so it's only right that I give you all pertinent information.

First, the Chinese Gender Chart (which I talked about here during my last pregnancy): With age of 28 and month of December: GIRL!

And then, I just copied and pasted this list of old wives tales, and I'll bold the ones that apply to me.

It's a boy if:

You didn't experience morning sickness in early pregnancy.

Your baby's heart rate is less than 140 beats per minute.

You are carrying the extra weight out front.

You are carrying low.

You are craving salty or sour foods.

You are craving protein -- meats and cheese.

Your feet are colder than they were before pregnancy.

The hair on your legs has grown faster during pregnancy.

Your hands are very dry.

Your pillow faces north when you sleep.

Dad-to-be is gaining weight right along with you.

Pregnancy has you looking better than ever.

Your urine is bright yellow in color.

Your nose is spreading.

You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves in circles.

You are having headaches.

You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an even number.

It's a girl if:

You had morning sickness early in pregnancy.

Your baby's heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute. (at 8 weeks: 170 something; at 12 weeks 158; at 16 weeks 140 something)

You are carrying the weight in your hips and rear.

Your hair develops red highlights.

You are carrying high.

You are craving sweets.

You are craving fruit.

You crave orange juice.

You don't look quite as good as normal during pregnancy.

You are moodier than usual during pregnancy.

Your face breaks out more than usual.

You refuse to eat the heel of a loaf of bread.

Your breasts have really blossomed!

Your pillow faces south when you sleep.

Your urine is a dull yellow color.

You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves from side

You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an odd number.

So, that gives me a total of 6 from the boy list and 12 from the girl list. Take what you want from all of that and make your decision. (Hopefully) there are just 9 days left to vote!

Vote! Vote! Vote!

It's April, Fools!

I'm behind on things. What else is new?

For example, I just updated my blog header today. It's April 5th - and I set these ridiculous goals for myself by having a blog header for each month instead of just leaving a permanent one up there. But I like 'em. And I think you do too. So each month end I'll continue to stress over not taking any good pictures to use in it over the prior month. Such as I did this month.

I feel like the pictures in this month's header need some explanation. (And if you are reading this in some other month than April of 2011, this is the header I'm talking about since it won't be up there in future months....except maybe the first week of May 2011 given my procrastinating nature.)

First, I did not spawn two 7 year old girls. Those are my darling nieces whom I love to pieces. You probably already knew that, but just in case you are new around here I thought I'd clear that up.

Second, John is wearing a mop cover on his head. It's this little cover thing that goes over the wood floor mop. This was surprisingly the best picture (and one of the only pictures) that I could find of him from 2011. Part my fault for not taking as many pictures lately; mostly his fault for not wanting to be in pictures ever. Plus, it's pretty funny - as an added bonus.

Third - the highly coveted bump picture. This was me at 16 weeks 1 day. [For those of you not up with the pregnancy lingo - that's 4 months. But pregnancy lasts 40 weeks which isn't exactly the 9 months you always hear people saying, which is why you actually use weeks to determine how far along you are...just FYI.]

I went to Daytona for an extra long weekend this past weekend and somehow gained this belly looking contraption while I was there...in part due to an over indulgence of french toast I think. John didn't go with me, and was pretty surprised at the looks of it when I got home. I knew when I got dressed for work this morning that people that I hadn't told personally at work would start saying stuff today. & my thoughts were confirmed at 8:14 a.m. when the first person asked me about it. I have a belly - wahoo!

Here it is bigger and better:
049-2

Just a little roundness, which is how I plan to stay for the next 3 or so months. Which means this was all a hoax! Gasp!

Finally, I went to the doctor today and had a great visit where I heard the heartbeat once again - a steady 148. & even more excitingly, I scheduled the fun ultrasound where we find out if this baby is a girl or boy 15 days from today. So the countdown is on. Which means I can live in my dream world where I'm having a girl for just 15 more days. & then on that day the ultrasound tech will crush my hopes and dreams when she tells me "It's a boy!" I just know it's going to happen. (and I'm {mostly} kidding, before you yell at me and try to get DSS to take away my future child.)

And that's about it for me. What's new with you, lovely readers?
